Duran Cigars was founded by an international cigar expert, Roberto Pelayo Duran, who experienced life through business in various parts of the globe. Living in Cuba, Hong Kong, Canada, Miami, Nicaragua, and Ecuador allowed him to cultivate his products for the world.
Duran Cigars is a vertically integrated international company, and we own and control our destiny through our farm in Ecuador, our leaf processing center and cigar factory in Nicaragua, and finally our marketing and wholesale division in Miami. Roberto personally oversees the growing of tobacco leaves in Ecuador, the rolling of cigars in Nicaragua, the selling of select leaves to our international clients in Nicaragua and finally the selling of our finest handmade cigars to retail and wholesale clients globally.
We own and operate this 100 HA tobacco farm and leaf drying facilities in Quevedo, Ecuador. The farm produces different types of wrapper leaves for Premium Cigars: Habanos criollo and corojo, Connecticut and Sumatra varieties. The leaves are then shipped to Nicaragua for a fermentation and classification process that takes up to two years before wrappers are ready to be rolled on a cigar.
Our Cigars are rolled entirely by hand at the Nicatabaco processing and cigar factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Tobacco leaves are carefully selected for each blend and only totally fermented fillers and binders are used. We only use our own wrappers – from Fincas Azan – to ensure excellence and a premier customer experience.
Crisantos Cardenas, alias Santo, was one of the most world-renowned Cuban cigars rollers. He starting rolling cigars in 1960 in Havana, Cuba, gained fame for his rolling abilities and charisma and by year 2000, Santo was very well known in the international cigar world. He travelled the globe displaying his art of rolling cigars in many fairs, events and celebrations. Roberto and Santo had a great friendship since 1994, and when our group was created in 2013, Santo joined us and worked as our brand ambassador and master blender for many years, until he passed away in 2021.
We treasure our time with Santo, as well as his lessons and master blends. We are honored to have his last collection of cigars, The Roberto Duran Rio Toa, rolled by Santo, a cigar that he blended and rolled himself, and that we have available only in our international flagship store in Miami, Florida.
